At the 2023 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, there were more than a few books that focused on the paranormal. That made it an excellent opportunity for practicing psychic Cindy Summer to exhibit her debut novel (a novel which was inspired by her experiences).
The novel is titled “Romani Redd: Stripped,” and it was displayed during the festival with the help of ReadersMagnet, a self-publishing and book marketing company.
“Romani Redd: Stripped” follows its female teen protagonist Sloane Gáspár Barzetti. Sloane was the descendant of the great Romani sorcerer Django Gáspár. And with this lineage, there came a psychic gift that granted knowledge without explanation.
Sloane soon finds that the gift, dubbed 'It,' has been passed down to her from her mother's side. Unfortunately, things take an ugly turn when Sloane's abusive biological father uses his visitation rights with the intention of making life miserable for her.
Despite this, Sloane feels her power grow, and she soon begins to attain knowledge more prophetic in nature. The future she sees spells doom, but will it be doom for her or someone else?
Summer wrote the story with a desire to inspire and empower her readers to stand in their truth. A part of this is expressed in her novel's colorful exposition of Romani culture, which was the source of her inspiration for her Django Gáspár legend. The Romani people have historically been an oppressed minority yet have a beautiful culture that has inspired the imaginations of many. Being descended from these people herself, Summer hopes her novel gives them a voice at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books.
